The UN: Past, Present, Future

[UNICEF Turkmenistan/2004/Pirozzi]

This issue of the SGI Quarterly focuses on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. Revisiting its founding spirit, we examine the past through interviews with early UN staffers, the present through current issues and experiences, the future through the eyes of youth. The SGI has consistently supported the lofty aims of the UN and carried out public education activities to help broaden awareness of the vital role of the UN as a forum for dialogue, consensus-building and action to address the common challenges facing our world. To quote SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's thoughts on the 60th anniversary in his 2005 peace proposal, "For the good of our planet, for the good of humankind, let us make the most of this opportunity, bringing all our intelligence and conviction to bear on the challenges of reforming and strengthening the United Nations."
